Review of Blow-Up (1966) by Simon D — 20 May 2012
Arsey young photographer David Hemmings gets a shock when he inadvertedly photographs a murder whilst snapping away at a sneaky couple in a park. Despite the Hitchcockian premise, the Italian Antonioni's landmark Brit flick is not so much of a thriller as it is a portrait of 60's "Swinging London" and a contemporary allude to the imminent changes in film style about to explode across the pond with the New Hollywood.
From that perspective, its an intriguing hybrid of the change in cinema before the change really came about.
