Review of Blow Out (1981) by Steve W — 27 Mar 2011
A slow burning conspiracy thriller with a lot of depth. A soundman recording some foley near the river records an accident, but further developments throw him into a web of murder and conspiracy.
The opening and ending set pieces are excellent, but the film is rather slow in the middle. The villain's murder subplot should have been used earlier, to pad out the slower scenes.
The main character is developed well to reinforce scenes throughout the entire film. The very atmosphere and tense nature would reflect Hitchcock, and if he were here now he would be proud.
