Review of Blow Out (1981) by Lindsay B — 18 Apr 2013
In this mystery movie, John Travolta plays a sound technician who is the unwitting witness of a suspicious car crash. While looking for survivors, he saves a woman's life (played by Nancy Allen). Feeling that what he saw is hardly an accident, he digs up some disturbing evidence.
Although the technical devices play an important part in the movie, the directing avoids lenghty parts where nothing happens as in, for instance, The Conversation (Coppola 1974) and Blow-Up (Antonioni 1966).
Travolta and Allen's acting performances, as well as those of the supporting actors, are very good. The storyline remains rather uncertain throughout the movie and the suspense is quite good : you feel what is going to happen yet you're still eager to see the story unfold.
