Review of Blow Out (1981) by Hannah D — 23 Mar 2015
With a great sense of tone and style, director Brian DePalma masterfully crafts a story of conspiracy and paranoia with his 1981 film, Blow Out. DePalma shows his skill and grasp of editing and technique as he tells the story of a Philadelphia soundman who witnesses and records a murder. As we watch Travolta's character delve deeper into the mystery, DePalma reveals layer after layer of the character and the plot in a way that doesn't feel like exposition. This makes the mystery all the more compelling.
With fantastic performances and a great cast of supporting characters, including a wonderful villain portrayed by the always foreboding John Lithgow, Blow Out is a classic thriller that will keep your pulse pounding and your mind racing.
