Review of Blow Out (1981) by Paul P — 20 Nov 2011
De Palma at his best. This is not a perfect film but there is so mucn to recommend it.
The visual techniques employed during this film are pretty stunning and the soundtrack score is fabulous. Putting this together with John Travolta makes for a great watch. He has a real screen presence and De Palma uses this to his advantage. It was also cool to see Dennis Franz in a bit part, the dude knows how to portray sleaziness and he does a grand job here in his limited screentime. John Lithgow makes the most of his character too, oozing menace at every opportunity. He was cwertainly fun to watch. Nancy Allen was a little annoying in this and she did grate on me a little, but that is more to do with her character who had virtually no development at all.
A great story, that is well told and stunningly filmed.
