Review of Bloody Sunday (2002) by Robert H — 18 Jul 2009
James Nesbitt is excellent as civil rights activist Ivan Cooper in this reenactment of the events leading up to and including the infamous Bloody Sunday massacre in Londonderry's Bogside on 30 January 1972.
The unprovoked attack on unarmed civil rights marchers which left 13 dead and 14 wounded was the catalyst that led to "The Troubles"; a 25 year cycle of sectarian violence that led to over 3000 civilian deaths.
The film takes an objective viewpoint showing how a breakdown of trust, miscommunication and outright intolerance combined to spark a civil conflict that affected every family in Northern Ireland for the next quarter century.
