Review of Bloody Sunday (2002) by Tristan M — 06 Jun 2014
Movies about historical true events are usually very well done, and this one is no exception. It's all about the lead up for the most part, and focuses on three unrelated characters: a 17 year old boy, and radioman in the military, and the head of the civil rights march.
They are all very interesting, but the way the director changes between them is not too great in my opinion. The scenes are fairly short, with a very brief pause between scenes, not the usual seemless transition.
And often times the scenes with cut out in the middle of the character saying something, which eventually got annoying. Not a whole lot happens in the first hour, just a long introduction to the inevitable shooting.
It isn't boring at all, it's just interesting and keeps you on edge. The actual shooting part was very well done, and shows well the chaos and confusion of what happened. It really got me mad and angry at the military soldiers who just shot the civilians, most of whom where not violent, in cold blood.
They looking to them with hate, and in one scene shot a old man holding a white flag as he walked out to help a wounded man. In another scene three soldiers started firing off rounds at a crowd of people as the ran away, just dropping them down for no reason.
The scene was very good, and is pretty much where the movie ends, besides the brief look inside the hospital and a speech by the head of the march. So great movie, and I'm now interested to find more movies and info on the subject.
