Review of Bloody New Year (1987) by Jason B — 03 Jan 2009
The film Bloody New Year, whose title practically serves as a double-entendre in terms of actual blood and the fact that it is a British film (which I didn't know), is a tough film to rate. Behind it is a terrifically original story, about a group of young adults sailing in the sea when their boat sinks and they become trapped on a deserted island.
Eventually, weird shit starts happening involving a hotel, rampart ghosts, and the occasional subplot about time-warps. Even the "horror" aspect of the film has a very Evil Dead-ish feel to it, but thanks to some dull acting and some overly thick British accents and dialog, the film didn't really live up to its potential, thus making the movie "just alright".
Some of the deaths were interesting, and the story was very original, but overall, kinda dull.
