Review of Bloodsport (1988) by Ciaran G — 10 Jan 2009
One of my favorite guilty pleasures. The Kumite scenes, of course, are the highlight here, but there's a lot of other good stuff too. Van Damme and Donald Gibb are really fun together and there are a bunch of great scenes in addition to the Kumite (the chase through Hong Kong, the Dim Mak, Frank's training, Frank taking the coin from Hossein, Frank and Jackson playing Karate Champ, etc.
). Throw in the thrill of seeing future Oscar-winner Forest Whitaker, Bolo Yeung turning in one of the great villain performances as Chong Li, and some hilariously bad acting (young Frank is awful) and you've got one of my favorites.
