Review of Blood Simple (1985) by Liv S — 10 Feb 2009
Easily the best movie by a first-time filmmaker (in this case filmmakers) I've ever seen. You can see how the Coen Bros. have really stayed true to their original style and voice throughout the years.
So many scenes here are so good, they demand to be seen over and over again. The overall feel of this movie is perfectly noir-ish and as bleak as it comes. Surprises even when you think you've seen this type of story a million times before.
And enough can't be said of Frances McDormand in her debut role.
