Review of Blood Simple (1985) by Jon W — 20 Oct 2008
While their first film doesn't have much of the wackiness that the Coens would end up being partially known for, it does have the noir styling and the twisty plot. The plot feels very much like a Coen Bros.
Movie, and you can see some of the visual touches that will become more prominent later on. While it does feel a little drawn out, the intensity of the last 10 minutes does end it on a high note. It is an interesting movie to watch because you can see how they've evolved as filmmakers, yet have still managed to retain certain Coen-isms throughout their whole carrier.
