Review of Blood Simple (1985) by Scott P — 04 Dec 2008
The Coen brothers make good films. If you're in doubt, think of the first Coen brothers movie that comes to mind and its often good.
Blood Simple is their debut and its style is like a classic film noir with great performances and excellent cinematography. Its cleverly made. Lots of creative shots and great lighting. This has to be my favorite out of Joel and Ethan's filmography with Fargo at a close 2nd. Blood Simple is rough, edgy, low budget filmmaking with a great script.
Bar owner pays a slimy customer to kill his cheating wife. Things go down hill. The film turns into a haunting murder mystery with one twist after another. The movie never stops surprising. Great film. Check it out.
