Review of Blood Simple (1985) by Thomas R — 18 Feb 2012
This is one where I will have to disagree with the rave reviews from critics and viewers alike. I actually love most of what the Coen brothers have directed/written/produced, and this film has some of their obvious trademarks (rather, later films have the trademarks of this film, since it is their first), but the dialogue and characters are so flat it is hard to really enjoy this as much as I wanted to.
There are some shining moments (the burial scene, the knife through the hand) and the last 10 minutes are epic, but I wouldn't call this anything more than average.
