Review of Blood Simple (1985) by Josh K — 10 Feb 2016
Fascinating debut from the Coen Brothers. It's a film in which the characters are so stupid that you find yourself repeatedly telling them out loud to stop doing what they're doing, as if you're watching a poorly-made horror B-movie.
What makes it fascinating, though, is that the stupid characters don't make it a bad movie. Despite the fact that each of them seems to be trying to out-stupid the others, the Coen Brothers still somehow manage to make a captivating story in which the suspense and tension feel very real.
