Review of Blood Into Wine (2010) by Melissa S — 08 Dec 2010
I saw the band Tool at the Knoxville Civic Coliseum on November 5th, 2002. By then they had already been big for quite some time. I must've been a fan of the music videos more than anything. I was a fan of A Perfect Circle, too. And though I eventually grew out of the music, I have respect for Maynard Keenan as an artist.
When I saw that he'd made a documentary about his passion for wine I thought 1) I might watch a documentary like this with or without his affiliation and 2) I've been a fan of his longer than I've appreciated a nice glass of wine (aside from the buzz it brings on a sad and lonely night). Really, it's not even that complicated. But the wine making process, I learned, certainly is.
With special guest appearances by the perfect being herself, Milla Jovovich, Patton Oswald and the duo Tim & Eric, this documentary was not only informative, but it was also hilarious and entertaining. I will warn you, by the time it's over, you will want a glass of Judith (named after Maynard's late mother), which sells from a limited number of cases made for about $100 a bottle. I fantasized about buying a case myself.
