Honestly some of the lingo and political situations in this movie can be a little blurry at times, but in almost any film that is based on any actual historical importance, the only way to truly understand the setting's ins and outs is to research the era prior to viewing this film. BUT, to say that the movie is seriously flawed because of this is truly an exaggeration of an overstatement. Do you want to watch Art, or have a history lesson explaining things so that the one scene where Leonardo DiCaprio briefly mentions the the South African Border War makes sense for 5 second, sound a little nit picky if you ask me.

Blood diamond is a cinematic experience that will open one's eyes, if only briefly, to the life outside their cozy homes. A life where one has to fight for each day to live and to feel rich is to fall in love and raise a family. A life of despair it may be, but a life of limitless possibilities and most of all... hope. When you start at the bottom of the food chain things can only seem better, perhaps that's why we make such big deals over small things such as not being able to afford the new.

I-phone.

Both DiCaprio and Hounsou give career and Oscar worthy performances that will bring some to tears, all backed by the very majestic cinematography of the war torn and beautiful land of South Africa. You leave the theatre feeling a little sad, yet unnaturally happy at the same time.
