Review of Blood Diamond (2006) by Tory M — 30 Sep 2018
Blood Diamond is a film that I remember greatly and is still one of my favourite DiCaprio performances. The film does not lay down quietly and we are thrown into the battle from the very beginning. Zwick is a filmmaker who should stick to these films, it is his strong suit.
He never clouds the overall arc of the film and we are left with a unique blend of treasure hunting and action. I think the true star of the film is Hounsou who has forever been the character in the background, and he shines in the role of a father looking for his family.
Connelly is good but is a bit player in the scheme of the story and the connection with DiCaprio is heavily forced, the film didn't really need this love interest connection. Great film and underappreciated.
