Review of Blood Diamond (2006) by Doctor S — 28 May 2015
Once I got beyond Leo di Caprio's terrible accent (thought he was Australian until he revealed himself as South African) I could properly absorb this story of two men with opposite intentions hunting together for the same priceless jewel. Raises the stakes by presenting an action movie with a serious message and staging action scenes that are scarily realistic instead of merely providing an empty thrill. Like The Constant Gardener, this is another film that addresses.
Important issues facing modern Africa, the kidnapping of children by warlords for use in their armies and the human cost for harvesting diamonds, an issue that speaks to my longstanding disgruntlement. States its compelling case without being preachy, although the closing scene at the UN was unnecessary and mawkish.
