Review of Blood and Chocolate (2007) by Adam B — 06 Jul 2009

This is like a second rate Twilight film, except instead of vampires, it's werewolves. As there are werewolves in it, you would have thought this would be quite a dark film and enough in it for those who do not enjoy romance, to still enjoy some parts of the film, but none of it really worked. The film didn't really have an atmosphere or mood about. The director could have gone one way and tried to make the film quite gothic and mysterious, similar to 'Twilight', or he could have given it more of fantasy and lovey dovey feel to it. But instead the film just has no real atmosphere to it. The plot is decent enough, but it just went along at a very slow pace without having a single wow factor about it. The idea and story line had it's enjoyable moments but the majority was very dull and lacks anything really special. The acting was also pretty poor and it was very hard to connect to any of the characters or situations.

Oh! I almost forgot! The so called werewolves were pathetic. I suppose it's good Garnier tried something different and more realistic, but, a Chihuahua is probably more frightening and dangerous. It was also laughable that silver conveniently only effected these werewolves when it suited the story. The main character must have been running around for a good 20 minutes after being cut with silver, whilst the others die almost instantly. Overall, a plot that has potential but executed very badly. A very average film.
