Review of Blonde (2022) by Core_Conflict — 30 Sep 2022
The movie is like one long nightmare. But a towering performance from Ana de Armas! The movie is based a novel, Blonde, which is a meditation on Marilyn Monroe. It's not based on fact. The writer/director creates a film that's pure arthouse.
Imagine, if you will, a dreamy David Lynch movie. It comes off like Lynch channeling Roman Polanski's Repulsion. Say what you will about the film's structure (the opening 17 minutes could have been edited down, for instance), but Armas deserves an Oscar for her vulnerable performance.
She is truly a candle in the wind. There's not a single scene in this movie where she's not spectacular. I'm giving this film a 10 for her performance.
