Review of Blitz (2011) by Naresh M — 02 Sep 2011
"If you're picking the wrong fight at least make sure you pick the right weapon.".
A downright campy, but hard-edged and supremely hardboiled English crime thriller from Director Elliott Lester. A completely brutal and vividly gritty film that keeps you watching, but ultimately comes up short towards the end. What starts out as a razor-sharp and excellently crafted thriller ended softly and, in my opinion, started to get a bit cheesy. Still though, the fight scenes were brutally realistic and thoroughly executed and the story, up to a certain point, was solid. It's along the same lines, but inferior, to the Matthew Vaughn produced English crime thriller "Harry Brown". Elliott Lester tried and failed to unleash his inner Guy Ritchie. Kits is worth a look for crime thrillers fans, but it doesn't pack the punch that some of the great thrillers pack.
Jason Statham is back doing what he does best, kicking ass and taking names, he carries the film quite well and has established himself as one of the newer and elite action stars. Patty Considine is always a blast to watch and Luke Evans is decent as well.
