Review of Bliss (2021) by Vectorpowers — 26 Feb 2021
I think to properly appreciate the movie you need to have some experience with addiction in your life. My husband was an addict. Therefore, I will say, it is not possible to "miscast", to believe so would say that everyone isn't subject to addiction-that there is a "type" and "not me".
Commentary like "it was boring" also really means nothing because that is also part of addiction. I had my brother-in-law tell his daughter once (when she asked WHY he did drugs), "because he was bored".
I was kind of upset about the parts of the story not tied up in a bow, but that also is part of addiction. My husband died of an overdose and I still don't know why or understand it - hence the confusion fits, too.
In short, I think people who have had to deal with addiction before will kind of "get it" better than those who don't. But no one will "get it" all the way - because that is the nature of addiction.
I kind of enjoyed it, kind of made me sad (due to husband), and kind of wished parts of the story were explored more definitively because that is my nature - to want a complete story with all questions answers and tied up in a bow.
But addiction isn't like that so...
