Review of Bliss (2021) by Mnba — 05 Feb 2021
A peculiar little throwback to late-90s Sci-Fi with a subtle Noirish vibe (Or maybe it just reminded me of Dark City in a weird way)? Kind of felt like a small budget indie film, but with two A-listers somewhere in the 2nd act of their careers. Owen Wilson and Salma Hayek are both very likeable people/actors, so that made for easy viewing + the pleasant scenery.
Oddly enough, after recently putting in about 160 hours on Cyberpunk 2077, a large portion of this movie felt right out of Cyberpunk 2077, glitches an’ all. It was like watching a side-story based around two of the homeless NPCs that wander around in that game. In fact, the whole thing is maybe based around a type of braindance circumstance ???
The movie as a whole came off more like a good episode of a Sci-Fi show that takes on various Sci-Fi subject matter per episode, i.e., Black Mirror.
Also, I’m not entirely sure if this movie was a complete bait-n-switch and it was all about one thing masked in something else, or if it was about both things equally and/or separately. Was it all social commentary? Idk.
Peculiar. Interesting. Not a bad watch.
