Review of Blindspotting (2018) by Yash B — 29 Jul 2018
"Blindspotting" is a well-made film that has a lot to say and works mostly due to the strong script and performances brought to life by Rafael Casal and Daveed Diggs. I thought both of these characters were fascinating and they had genuine chemistry.
The movie balances comedic and dramatic tones well and feels like a healthy mix of two very different genres. The first hour or so has a few dramatic elements but showcases most of the comedic moments the movie has to offer.
However, almost every moment in the last act is super tense and I felt on the edge of my seat. The movie feels fairly grounded in reality until one moment near the end. I thought this moment was creative but it made me realize I was watching a movie and took away from some of the realism the movie had set up.
Nonetheless, the strong performances, story, and social commentary make this an effective movie that is a unique experience. .
