Review of Blind Fury (1989) by Jason J — 30 Apr 2011
Rather silly comedy adventure about a blind Vietnam vet trained to swordfight by the locals when he was injured during the war and finding his skills coming in rather handy years later when his friend gets involved with a crime boss in Reno.
Blind Fury is utterly far fetched and indeed the action sequences which involve Rutger holding his own against a Japanese swordfighter and the like, is kind of ridiculous. However because Rutger Hauer doesn't take it seriously and has fun with the role, the movie becomes all the better for it.
There are some flaws, as there are some various slow spots and Brandon Call as the kid is kind of irritating but most of the time the action takes over at regular intervals and provides the required entertainment for the genre fan.
An adequate feature featuring Rutger Hauer, though not his best.
