Review of Blind Chance (1987) by Luke P — 19 Jan 2009
I don't know how many films follow this narrative, but I've seen it once before in "Run Lola Run." The concept is to branch three life possibilities out of one pivotal event. Because I recognized the structure, I wasn't blown away or distracted by the novelty of the device.
Instead, I focused on what made the film distinct from "Run Lola Run." Ultimately, I think the film depicts Kieslowsky at a developmental stage, in which he wrestles with a number of his common themes, but does so in a way that is less imprinting on his audience.
I understand why the film was initially banned behind the iron curtain, because there is a firm criticism within of the authoritarian government surrounding Witek. (the main character) If anything, I found the film brave and considerate.
