Review of Blended (2014) by Kyle M — 31 Jan 2015
The first date involved a wedding singer and a waitress. The second date involved a girl with no memory to remember of the man she met the previous day every day. Now the third date started disastrous with obnoxious behavior of their surroundings (sporadically throughout). Not a good way to reunite/re-collaborate after ten years when the opening should've been better with better developments. But hey, this is a Sandler comedy; and Barrymore's duty was to put in sweetness. It seems she didn't had it in her until the main story started to form when they both took a nicely-planned opportunity.
Sandler's latest comedy "Blended" goes back to romance since "Just Go With It" and borrowed some past elements and same IQ and choice of cast, especially going on a vacation adventure in Africa than Hawaii with similar plot points. He also "blended" in slapstick to the genre. The result of the third date turns out to be the least, despite the returning director Frank Oraci - who match-made the pair in the beginning. On the nicer note next to a few good choices of the cast, it's a pleasant reunion of Sandler and Barrymore as both of them showed little signs of heart during the second half after typical good humor with some hilarity.
Thanks to the hilarity and what the pair were able to bring to redeem themselves after their disastrous opening, this Sandler comedy was able to receive a 4-star despite being threatened by its bad contents that could easily get this film to receive a 3.5-star rating. (B+).
When the Razzies announce their nominations for the year 2014, I'm pretty sure this film will be nominated for Worst Screen Couple on Kevin Nealon and Jessica Lowe (maybe individually in both of the "Worst Supporting" categories). Those two got my vote; including Terry Crew, who may get nominated in a special category of Worst Decision for deciding to have a short screening time in "The Expendables 3" just to be in this.
