Review of Blazing Saddles (1974) by Jc E — 20 Mar 2014
As with any Mel Brooks (Dracula: Dead and Loving It) film, nothing is off limits. This one tackles racial clichés in a way that only Brooks can deliver. Packed with a cast that perfectly brings Brooks' insane brand of humor to life, including Cleavon Little, Gene Wilder (Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory), Slim Pickens (Dr.
Strangelove), Harvey Korman (Dracula: Dead and Loving It), and Madeline Kahn (Young Frankenstein), it offends with hysterical results. Several of my friends have theorized that this movie could never be made today.
I think they're right. Everyone is so easily offended and everything is so sanitized by the politically correct police that something that's this funny couldn't possibly be produced today.
Oh well. This one is a classic.
