Review of Blast from the Past (1999) by Janis S — 02 Aug 2010
I have no idea why people get so down on this movie. It's a perfectly harmless, fun, loose, high-concept romantic comedy. Christopher Walken does his schtick (which everyone loves), it has the very nineties presence of Alicia Silverstone, and I may be alone, but I find Brendan Fraser to be a perfectly watchable leading man, he looks like the parody of an old B movie idol, which is perfect for this film (and THE MUMMY, and LOONEY TUNES: BACK IN ACTION, and JOURNEY TO THE CENTER OF THE EARTH, and.
..etc.). Some scenes are hilarious, some are conceptually funny, others don't work so well, but overall it's a movie people hate and I can't seem to fathom why, there are worse ways to spend an hour and fifty-one minutes.
