Review of Blame It on Fidel! (2006) by Jon W — 21 Oct 2007
I found this film charming. Colourful and clever, funny and yet about serious issues. I think this film would work very well as a double feature with Pan's Labyrinth as it explores a child's interpretation of fascism in Spain but in a very different way.
The film is full of allegory about the salience of belief systems and I think very neatly plays very neatly on the balance between the strength in unity and the danger of following the crowd. I think that it could have done with being weeded down a little in the middle to keep the film flowing but overall managed to be interesting and funny all the way through.
It was so nice to see her at the end of the film, having been through a real development. I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS FILM.
