Review of Blame It on Fidel! (2006) by Gustavo A — 01 Dec 2008
The girl playing anna (nina kervel-bey, I think) very ably carries this film. she is sometimes unlikeable, sometimes adorable. I loved the dynamic between the children -- very believable and detailed. the filmmaking felt very careful -- party scenes are collections of bellies and hips and no shot or scene felt rushed.
the historical context of the film was appropriately rendered, never so politically heavy that it overwhelms anna's story, but clear enough to keep the audience aware of issues contemporary to the characters.
I recommend it.
