Review of Blair Witch (2016) by Kayla H — 02 Jan 2017
Blair Witch doesn't look as authentic and realistic as what the Blair Witch Project executed. But rather, it has the vibe of a typical found footage film who begs the audience to think it's real. The film has had a lot of scare potentials to offer if only a good use of horror elements was exerted. Tho the movie brags a good amount of gore and a plausible climax.
It is a found footage film that you would talk shit about after being half terrified to a loud cheap jumpscare that caught you off-guard and left you annoyed instead of causing a state of disconcertment. Yet, this is a decent sequel than the Book Of Shadows (which I never watched because it has some excruciating bad reviews, and the title itself also depicts it is a piece of trash, so no, thank you to that).
Personally, would rather take the 2016 sequel as the "2nd installment" of the first film; then the Book Of Shadows as a trashy spin-off that would've never existed in the first place. Wingard had done enough to make a solid conclusion for the first Blair Witch, yet, failed to deliver a memorable execution, but somehow, has a little something to say about it.
