Review of Blade Runner 2049 (2017) by Del S — 08 Oct 2017
Firstly This is a rare rare film in that it somehow managed to get through the "dumb down "net of modern cgi blockbusters. It's like the money men had a golfing day when the cheques were signed. Or the director and the writers invited the big wigs to a cocaine pool party.
This film clearly pays Homage to the sci fi greats of the past like Kubrick, Ridley Scott and Spielberg and nods to the suffocating dystopian nightmares of Terry Gilliam.
The pace is slower then slow like a Juenet or a Jarmusch film, but it's thunderous howling sound track eerily keeps you spellbound as you travel through the dark dystopic wastelands of this modern world. Each scene as lavish and foreboding as the one before.
It's the best film I've seen in years ... I can only thank the film makers for not dumbing it down or cgi'ing it into a silly rollercoaster of dirge and mediocrity.
It was disturbing and suffocating, it was world making .. bravo ....
