Review of Blade Runner 2049 (2017) by Joey K — 17 Jan 2018
The original Blade Runner was a Sci-Fi classic, the visuals did over take any inadequacies in the story line and it left open the possibility for a sequel. So 30 years later we got our sequel. Some times waiting that long for a sequel fills me with dread.
But in this case it works remarkably well. The cast all fits there roles, the returning Harrison Ford is his usual self (my wife even watched this, mainly cause of him I'm sure), Ryan Gosling is very good as K, the Blade Runner of this movie and even Jared Letho is good.
The story kept my attention through out the movie and whilst it is long. Its a very deliberate piece of story telling. After sleeping on it and thinking about this movie I think a 4 star rating is completely where it is.
Denis Villeneuve is fast approaching Christopher Nolan as my favorite director. His visual style is all over this movie and he depicts a time not to far in the future to be very dystopian. Under lying themes, concise story telling and great visuals all account to a great sequel which unlike other recent Alien sequels push the story in a satisfying manner.
