Review of Blade Runner 2049 (2017) by Davis B — 04 Mar 2018
2049 reduces the original to an unnecessary prologue. Set post-blackout (a vague equivalent to Sept 11/Market Crash/insert disaster here) the futuristic dark age has devastated the world of Blade Runner in the 30 years since our last visit.
If the original was a gorgeous nightmare, this one is a deathbed morphine hallucination. Unlike the original, 2049 has a soul under its seemingly impenetrable surface.
