Review of Blade Runner 2049 (2017) by Kurt Y — 03 Feb 2018
Fantastic film. In a time where 80s film revivals fall flat, it's refreshing to see one done incredibly well. An incredible amount of work went into details in the film. The film continuity was very believable. There were no flat-screen TVs, the Blade Runner universe created a clear path for technological advancement, and this film followed it. The dark atmospheres with monochrome rays of light are still there, and even poked fun at once. Any fan of the original will fall in love with this movie. On the contrary, many who have not seen the original may not like it as much; it's definitely a sequel that rewards the viewer from remembering the first.
It's a long movie, but each minute matters, but it takes a bit of thinking (and memory of the original) to feel the significance of those moments. From what I've gathered, most of the rotten reviews probably hadn't seen, remembered, or liked Blade Runner. If you are find of the original, then I'm almost positive you'll love it.
