Review of Blade II (2002) by Rafiq U — 21 Sep 2011
I finally watched this thinking it would be a pretty cookie cutter action movie (to quote a friend of mine) But I think it plays at a little literary design value. As the film progresses the plot thickens and people get betrayed etc.
etc. until we reach the climax where Blade is the only person left standing pretty much. It attempts to pull on some heart strings I feel like, but this was right in the middle of the Hollywood supernatural action movie hype.
It is a fun movie to watch and the cinematography really highlights very specific elements. The costumes are all leather (of course) and black. Ron Perlman is in it, Norman Reedus is in it. It is very good at feeling like a comic book.
Definitely not meant to be taken seriously this movie is great fun. I'd reccomend watching this just for the Wesley Snipes one-liners. Gotta love those. Interestingly enough the plot recalls the Underworld films, so it might not be bad to do a comparison between the two and what values they reflect, bt my inner film nerd digresses.
Watch it, enjoy it. It's a good late night rental.
