Review of Blade II (2002) by Julian T — 12 Dec 2011
Very good sequel to the underrated original. Del Toro takes the series to its greatest hight, as his keen visual and directoral style is taylor made for this kind of movie. The actors all take their roles seriously, and Snipes really grows into his role in a deeper way than he manged to capture in the first film.
Seriously entertaining, full of crazy highly stylized battle scenes and plenty of ass-kickery. The Reapers are a great concept. Scary and they look great. Some flaws, as they never explain how Kristofferson's character is reprised (he CLEARLY blew his head off in the first movie) and it does take a little while to get rolling.
Also, it lacks a little bit of the grittiness and unpredictablilty which was part of the originals success. While the third installment in the series was pretty good also, I find myself really wishing that Del Toro would have returned for another go around with the franchise.
