Review of Blade (1998) by Brian S — 07 Nov 2011
While it's not a particularly outstanding movie, it has a terrific dark tone and a very interesting story. the writing is probably the weakest point, both in plot coherence and dialogue. the ice-skating line, for instance, is just confusing.
it just felt pretty rough around the edges. the action sequences were pretty cool, but they also got repetitive...we get it, Wesley Snipes can kick ten or twenty butts at once. now show me something different.
some of the editing was a little unusual, too...I noticed some choppy cuts every now and then that didn't serve much of a purpose. I really liked Stephen Dorff and Kris Krisofferson's performances.
..they were kind of hammy and over the top, but they were a lot of fun, too. overall a graphic and darkly entertaining action movie with vampires who are actually worth watching.
