Review of Blacula (1972) by Chris C — 02 May 2008
What's the only thing better than low budget camp horror? Low budget camp blaxploitation horror.
Not necessarily "good" in the traditional sense. There were some good performances, but that's not why you watch a masterpiece like this.
There's quite a few crappy performances, shitload of filler scenes, shotty character development, hell... the castle in the beginning looks like it should have Lego men as residents, the plot is as transparent as a vampire in a photo, and it's got that damn fine early 70's funk soundtrack!
On top of all that... the movie has not aged well. At all. It's obvious datedness is the icing on the cake of awesome that is this movie.
And I hear there's a sequel... starring Pam Grier no less! I <3 you, exploitation cinema.
