Review of BlacKkKlansman (2018) by Toby H — 28 Nov 2018
Definitely one of Spike Lee's best works, this movie at first seems as subtle as an anvil, but the subtlety is not Lee's intent. It's about drawing a straight line from America's embarrassing past to America's embarrassing present.
What is the most upsetting about this movie is not the shameful imagery displayed, but that the people who should ostensibly learn from this are most Iikely the ones who would never see a Spike Lee Joint in the first place.
Then again, maybe those groups and individuals have been so conditioned out of the capacity to feel any shame that all that's left is a hate that's not recognized within themselves.
