Review of BlacKkKlansman (2018) by Aaron S — 29 Sep 2018
This bold project by Lee is exactly what this country, especially white Americans, need as we deal with the reality that racism in American society and politics has not improved. Pervasive racism in American society and politics is critiqued through three phases of history featured the movie; the past (Civil War Reconstruction-1970s), the present (1970s), and the future (1970s-2017).
Spike Lee not only starts a conversation about where racial equality stands today, but also makes us think about how we have viewed American history through a particularly white sympathetic frame. This film could not have come at a better time, and is definitely a recommendation of mine, particularly to white people that I know.
