Review of BlacKkKlansman (2018) by James C — 11 Sep 2018
This garbled trainwreck has the poltical subtlety of a child hitting you on the head with a mallet. Lee unfortunately also seems to be so excited to tell the real life story he completely forgets how drama works, with most scenes being comprised of 'people talking to each other', barely any conflict or drama, and pretty boring.
The score too seems a total mess and generally the film lacks any sense of stylistic coherence. I can maybe think of or one two moments where about three people in the audience let out a guffaw at the trump jokes, and that low percentage should give you an idea of how out of touch it felt.
A politically charged film with an underdeveloped and overly didactic subtext. Really shocking how high these rating are. Strip away the politics and it's still a really bad film.
