Review of BlacKkKlansman (2018) by Ellen S — 31 Aug 2018
Jordan Peele, Spike Lee & crew do a bang-up - and badly-needed - job of combining a tense drama of a multi-racial squad of undercover cops in Colorado busting the Klan, with an exposition of racism in U.
S. cinema and history. From the opening scenes from Gone With the Wind, to flashes of Birth of a Nation to video of Heather Heyer's murder in 2017 followed by Trump's "good people on both sides," it is clear that racism will not just die a natural death with the passage of time.
Bravo! But it's impossible not to wish that Spike Lee would pay as much attention to highlighting dramatic moments in his plot (exactly who blew up what in the movie's climax?) as he does with schooling us on politics.
