Review of BlacKkKlansman (2018) by Tj S — 13 Aug 2018

I do not have a lot of knowledge on Spike Lee's filmography. Never got around to watching any of his movies. This was the first one for me. If it's any indication of how the rest of his movies are I'm in for a treat.

First off, this movie hit hard at the end. I love that it reminds the viewers of the terrible events taking place in this country and how relevant the source material still is. Now, with that out of the way, I want to touch on some technical points of the film.

I love this ensemble of actors. John David Washington was a hit. That guy did a fantastic job, I loved Adam Driver, and even the supporting actors/actresses that played the klan members (and a wife) had good performances.

This movie did a nice job of balancing humor and dark serious matters. Somehow I was able to laugh AND feel awful. I liked Spike Lee's filming style the way he shot some of the scenes it almost felt similar to Tarantino at times but he made it his own.

Overall I really loved this movie. I hope it comes back around during award season.
