Review of Black Widow (2021) by Afm185 — 11 Jul 2021
I had a feeling about this one just after hearing about it that it wouldn’t be anything special. And yeah, it’s lower tier Marvel. Easy to enjoy but forgettable in most ways. After her fate in Endgame it really felt like the only thing that can happen in this movie is we get attached to the side characters.
And I did. They’re genuinely interesting people. Even more than Natasha herself, honestly. I’ve never been that invested in her but her team here is great. Red Guardian is my favorite, Yelena a close second.
But Taskmaster is just… damn. They provide some good action but wow are they booooring. Plot wise it does work but it feels a waste of such a cool villain. And then the story is mostly inconsequential, as far as I can tell.
I sorta realized it would be at the start, and knowing that, I wasn’t very invested in anything aside from which characters would survive. It’s more a personal story for Black Widow and as I said I don’t care much about her so that didn’t bring me in the way I’m sure the movie wanted to.
