Review of Black Widow (2021) by Thylbanus — 10 Jul 2021
An overbudget near shot for shot remake of Winter Soldier without the emotional connection. Stop watching after the second act and this is an OK film, as it spirals in the third. The worst part is the real villain gets away without consequences. Unsurprising, given that I subsequently found out that one of the writers is the writer of "Wandvision." If you haven't watched that series (don't), but the same thing happens. Well, in that series the real villain is lauded as a hero.
Florence Pugh is the highlight of the movie (well, it should, it's really her film). Johansson phones in her performance. I think the only reason I'm being so hard on this film is that I've wanted a Black Widow film for over a decade. This could have been a great Manchurian Candidate meets Borne Identity, but no.
