"The other Aussie croc pic" from last year is an altogether different beast than McLean's effort. If Rogue was more like Jaws, Black Water has more in common with Open Water. It doesn't constantly go for the jugular, but gets the characters stuck in a single spot and watches how they deal with the situation, both on a personal and a practical level.
Ultimately, the more sensational Rogue feels more satisfying, but this is still a worthy effort.
