Review of Black Water (2008) by Bryon V — 04 Jun 2010
This is a film that's been really well made on a low budget. I'd heard that it was truly scary despite it being overshadowed by the other croc thriller Rogue which was released right before it.
I think what let it down was that I just didn't really care about these people. They tried to make us care, especially by making one of them pregnant, but that just didn't work for me. The best character was the croc, as it should be - but it means that the movie just isn't as frightening as it could be.
I enjoy a funny horror movie, but I wasn't supposed to be laughing during this one. I couldn't help but laugh every time the casually awesome croc appeared. This still deserves to be seen, and maybe others will connect with the characters a bit more.
For those who don't, you get to have fun rooting for a pretty cool villain.
