Review of Black Water (2008) by Casey M — 09 Jul 2010
Builds a pretty good amount of suspense early on by using tricks perfected elsewhere in the "underwater terror" genre, but loses most of it's steam once the Croc starts emerging and making actual grabs for the cast.
The cast are all older than 21, are uniformily average looking and have a decent handle on acting appropriately afraid, elevating them above the bog standard glistening teen drama club rejects that normally get cast in these sorts of flicks.
The croc looked realistic enough, but behaved less like a hungry animal and more like a devious villain wringing it's hands and stalking its frightened victims. The movie would have benefited from a monster that was more primal-eating-machine and less ten-steps-ahead.
